Power Point Presentation Competition

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM S. D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised a 'Power Point Presentation' Competition on 29th August, 2023. 13 students of B Sc. (Non Med, C. Sci, Economics) participated in this competition. Students had prepared the PPt's on the topics like 'Maths in Nature', 'Maths in Astronomy', 'Maths in everyday life', 'Maths in Architecture' etc. This competition was organised to give an opportunity to the students to enhance their presentation skills and to boost up their confidence. Ritika Rana from B. Sc.(C.Sc.) Sem VI bagged first position. Sandesh Preeti of B. Sc. (C.Sc.) Sem VI and Nidhi of B. Sc. (Non Med) Sem II got second and third positions respectively. 



Slogan Writing Competition

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM S. D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised a 'Slogan Writing' Competition on 30th September, 2023. 11 students of B Sc. ( Non Med, C. Sci, Economics) participated in this competition. Students had written the admirable slogans on Mathematics. This competition was organised to give an opportunity to the students to enhance their creative thinking and to boost up their confidence. Ziya from B. Sc. (Non Med) Sem V bagged first position. Kasak of B. Sc. (Eco) Sem I got second position. Manpreet of B. Sc. (Non Med) Sem V and Khushi from B. Sc.(Eco) Sem I got third position. 


National Mathematics Day

To mark the 125th birth anniversary of Great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, Government of India declared 22nd December as National Mathematics Day on 26 December, 2011.  Every year, Department of Mathematics organised various competition on this day to make the students aware about the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan to Mathematics. This year, S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics, PCM S. D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised 'Model Making Competition'. Students showed their presentation skills through these models. Students made models on topics like trigonometry, functions, conic section, plane, probability etc. With this activity, the students got the exposure to experiential learning through practical knowledge of topics.


Extempore

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics organised 'Extempore' on 30th January,2024. This competition was organised to give an opportunity to the students to display their presentation skills. Topics of the event were not only based upon Mathematics but also from real life situations. Students of BA/ B. Sc. Sem II, Sem IV and Sem VI had participated in this event with full enthusiasm. Sandesh Preeti of B.Sc. (C.Sc.) Sem VI secured first position, Chandni of B. Sc. (Eco) Sem IV and Bhavika of B. Sc. (Non Med) Sem II made it to second position. Harsimran of B.A Sem IV bagged third position. 




π Day Celeberation

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics organised celeberated Pi Day on 14th March, 2024. Pi day is an annual celeberation of the mathematical constant π(pi). Pi day is observed on March 14 since 3,1 and 4 are the first three significant figures of π. This year Department of Mathematics hold different activities like slogan writing, best out of waste and declamation to aware the students about importance of π. Students of BA, B.Sc. (Eco), B.Sc.(Non Med), B.Sc.(C.Sc.) Sem II, IV and VI took part in these activities enthaustically. These activities were organised to enhance the self confidence and speaking skills among the students. 


Workshop on Hands-on Mathematics and Science

Department of Mathematics and Department of Science, PCM S. D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised One-day Workshop on "Hands-on Mathematics and Science"  on 29th March 2024. This workshop aimed to revolutionize teaching practices by advocating for practical learning experiences. The workshop, led by Shiksha Ratan Dr.  Jaswinder Singh, World Record Holder to run Mathematics and Science Laboratory on wheels for longest time, aimed to revolutionize teaching methodologies through practical learning experiences on the wheel.  Through collaborative discussions and demonstrations, participants gained valuable insights into basics of Science and Maths.




Educational Trip to CSIR- IMTECH, Mohali

Department of Mathematics in collaboration with Department of Science organized an Educational Trip to CSIR IMTECH Chandigarh on 8th April, 2024. Students from B.Sc. Sem II, Sem IV and Sem VI visited this place with a great enthusiasm. Students were taken to Mass Spectrometry Demonstration, Electron Microscope Lab, Pasteur Hall, Medicinal Chemistry Lab and X-ray crystallography Lab. The experts at CSIR IMTECH demonstrated the instrument's functionality and discussed its significance. Throughout the visit, students actively engaged with the researchers and scientists at CSIR IMTECH. They had the opportunity to ask questions related to ongoing research projects, career prospects in Science.  This trip enhanced understanding of advanced scientific instrumentation. 






Activities (2022-23)

Workshop on Vedic Maths

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics, PCM S. D. Collegiate Sen. Sec. School for girls, Jalandhar organised a workshop on 'Vedic Maths' on 7th October, 2022. Mr. Manohar Mehta, retired Senior Manager, State Bank of India was the speaker on this occasion. He made the students aware about the various techniques used in Vedic Maths. He gave many examples to make the concepts more clear. He added  that using these techniques, students can easily crack the various competitive exams.  


 Extempore
S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics organised 'Extempore' on 31st October, 2022. This competition was organised to give an opportunity to the students to display their presentation skills. Topics of the event were  not only based upon Mathematics but also  from real life situations. 

Reasoning and Aptitude Quiz 
S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics organised 'Reasoning and Aptitude' Quiz on 16th November, 2022. Questions are based upon the topic 'Alpha Numeric Series', 'Blood Relations', 'Series Completition', 'Coding- Decoding' and 'Mathematical Operations'. Students of BA and B. Sc  participated with full enthusiasm. 

National Mathematics Day

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics, PCM S. D. Collegiate Sen Sec School for Girls, Jalandhar organised 'Poster Presentation Competition'on 22nd December,2022 to commemorate the National Mathematics Day. 18 students of SSC I and  SSC II showed their presentation skills through these posters. 

Model Making  Competition 

S.Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM.S.D.Collegiate Sen Sec School for Girls, Jalandhar organized  Model Making Competition on 31st January, 2023. 11 Students of SSC I and SSC II participated in the competition  enthusiastically. They made models on the topics based upon derivatives, trigonometry, three dimensional geometry, vectors, relation & functions etc.


Mathematical Rangoli Competition 
S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized Mathematical Rangoli Competition. This competition was organized to give an opportunity to the students to display their Mathematical skills. Students of BA/ BSc. Sem II, Sem IV and Sem VI participated in the competition enthusiastically. 

π Day Celebration

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized an inter class 'Group Discussion' on the topic 'Application of  π' to celebrate 'π Day' on 15th March, 2023. Students of B.A./ B.Sc.(Non Med)/ B.Sc.(C.Sc.)/ B.Sc.(Eco)/ B.A.B.Ed. Sem II, Sem IV, Sem VI expressed their views on application of π.


National Webinar

Department of Mathematics of PCM S. D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised National Webinar on 'Algebraic Graph Theory' on 20th April, 2023. Dr. Roshan Sara Philipose, Assistant Professor in Mathematics, Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, Kerala was the resource person for the webinar. She started with an impressive introduction of the concept and explained the history of graph theory with suitable examples. The resource person also explained the concept of graph theory in context of linear algebra. She also gave various real life examples related to graph theory. Around 50 participants comprising students and faculty members of various institutions attended the webinar.

 





 Activities (2021-22)

Investiture Ceremony 

S.Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM.S.D.College for Women, Jalandhar organized an Investiture Ceremony in the college campus on 30th September, 2021. Shriya  of  B.Sc (Non-Medical) Semester V was elected as President and Navroop of B.Sc (C.Sci.) Semester III was elected as Vice President.  In addition to this, twelve students were appointed as Executive Members. 



Poster Presentation Competition

Poster Presentation Competition was organised by S. Ramanujan Society Of Mathematics on 14th October, 2021. 15 students of B.Sc.(Non Med, C.Sc., Eco) and B.A. B.Ed, participated in this competition. Students had prepared the posters on the topics like Maths in Theater, Pascal Triangle, Maths in Everyday life, Numbers etc. 











National Mathematics Day

National Mathematics Day was organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar on 17th March, 2022 to celebrate the birth anniversary of S. Ramanujan. Shriya of BSc Non Medical Semester VI and Parineeta of BSc Computer Science Semester IV both bagged second prize in debate. Vanshi of BSc Non Medical Semester VI and Santoshi of BSc Non Medical Semester IV made it to third position in Mathematical Rangoli. 

Power Point Presentation Competition

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organised a Powerpoint Presentation Competition on 30th March, 2022 to commemorate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Students of BSc Semester II took avid participation in the same. Contributions made by various exemplary Indian Mathematicians like Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, S. Ramanujan and Shakuntla Devi were depicted through their presentations.

National Mathematics Day

 S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics celebrated ‘National Mathematics Day’ on 22nd December, 2020.  To commemorate this occasion, an online inter class poster presentation competition was organized. 15 students from different classes participated in this competition. 

 







Activities (2019-20)

National Mathematics Day

S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics celebrated ‘National Mathematics Day’ on 21st December, 2019.  Various competitions like power point presentations, model making and poster presentation were held to commemorate the occasion. Mrs. Neera Seth, former Head, Department of  Mathematics graced the occasion as chief guest. She appreciated the efforts of students. 






Activities 2018-19

‘Innovations and Calculations – 2019’

S. Ramanujan Society of Department of Mathematics organized an event ‘Innovations and Calculations – 2019’ on 23rd February, 2019. Mrs. Neera Seth, Ex Head of Department of Mathematics was the Chief Guest of the day. Students of B.Sc.(Non Med, C.Sc., Eco) and B.A. participated in competitions of power point presentation, poster presentation, scientific rangoli and medicinal plant variety show.  





Activities 2017-18

World Statistics Day

‘World Statistics Day' was celebrated by S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics  on 7-11-2017 . Guest lecture on ‘Vedic Mathematics’ was delivered by Ms. Vandana Bansal , Associate Proff. in Mathematics , Ramghria College , Phagwara.  She gave many examples to make the students expertise in using Vedic Mathematics for problem solving. 



Trip to Science City

A trip to Pushpa Gujral. Science City, Kapurthala was organized by S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics, PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar on 18th March, 2018. Students inspired a lot by laser show, planetarium show, climate show, e- simulation show and many more.

Math Symposium-2017

S.Ramanujan Society of Mathematics had organized Math Symposium-2017 on 06.02.2017. Competitions on Power Point Presentation, Poster Making and Quiz were held in this event. Mrs. Sarabjeet Aneja, Head, Department of English was the Chief Guest of the day. Students of B.Sc. (Non Med, C.Sc., Economics) and B.A. participated in this event.
